October 23, 2011

Boulder, CO – Two weeks out of a disappointing Ironman World Championships
debut, Boulder Olympian Matty Reed took the short course start line at the 5150
Galveston Triathlon and didn’t look back.

“I am pleased to win today and am happy to be back at short course racing,”
Reed said.

Reed took control on the bike and exited T2 with a two minute lead.

“It was nice to flush the legs out and be able to run solid.”

Reed finished 27th at Ironman World Championships in his first attempt in
Kona and only his second race in his career at that distance.

“I am disappointed with my Kona race. I know I am fit and going to end this
season on a good note.”

Up next is Ironman 70.3 Miami next weekend.

Boulder Olympian Matty Reed grabs 2nd at Philadelphia Triathlon

June 26, 2011

Boulder, Colorado- Boulder’s Matty Reed showed he is back in form following
a few weeks of the flu, as he grabbed 2nd at today’s Race to the Toyota Cup
stop at the Philadelphia Triathlon. 2008 Olympian Reed exited the water in
5th, came off the bike in 3rd and ran into 2nd with the fastest run split on
the day.

Boulder’s Cameron Dye finished 4th after leading off the bike. American Andy
Potts passed Dye around mile four for the win.

“I am glad to be healthy,” Reed said. “I got in a block of training about a
month ago and the day before leaving for Cap Tex (the previous Race to the
Toyota Cup stop), I got the sore throat. I knew I was fit, but the sickness
killed me for about 10 days.”

Reed raced 3 weeks in a row despite the flu, and finally was able to kick
the virus.

“I have had some great training and knew my form is coming. I didn’t taper
for this race as Minneapolis Lifetime/Race to the Toyota Cup is in 13 days
(where Reed is the two-time defending champion) and I want to bring my best
for that event.”

Reed will race Minneapolis July 10 and then return home that night to race
the local Boulder Peak Triathlon July 11 which he won in 2007 and 2008.

“It is my hometown race. I have to give it a go,” said Reed with a big grin.
“Its a fun challenge.”

Last year Reed won Minneapolis, and then finished 3rd at Boulder Peak.

Boulder’s Olympian Matty Reed back on top of the Podium

By on May 16, 2011 | Category: Matty Reed,UMS News |

Boulder, Colorado- Boulder’s Matty Reed successfully defended his 2010 Rev3 Knoxville Triathlon title. Reed took the lead from Boulder’s Cameron Dye in the later stage of the run to secure the win. This is the second race this month that both Reed and Dye have been on the triathlon podium.

“I am happy to win today and its good to know I am coming into form,” Reed, a 2008 Olympian, said. “I didn’t ride well today so I had to keep faith in my training and not give up til the tape.”

Dye, who recently finished 3rd, to Reed’s 2nd at St. Anthony’s triathlon, showcased an outstanding race, leading out of the water and off the bike.

“It was a great race for me. I just came up a bit short at the end,” Dye said. “I am really happy with where my swim and ride are at, and this is just more motivation to work on my run.”

Both Dye and Reed agree that their friendly rivalry is bringing out the best in them both.

“Cam is a good buddy of mine and we do some training together. The guy is quality and really is fun going head to head with each other,” Reed said.

The duo is making an even bigger name for Boulder in the short course triathlon racing. Reed, who has been living in Boulder for 10 years, has won over 25 triathlons since 2008, including the 2008 Olympic Trials.

Dye was raised in Boulder and made his young name in youth swimming for Boulder. Dye marked his first triathlon career win last year winning St. Anthony’s triathlon and the 2011 Nautica South Beach Triathlon.

Up next for Reed is May 30th at Cap Tex Triathlon in Austin Texas, which is part of the Lifetime Fitness/Race to the Toyota Cup. Reed won the Toyota Cup in 2009, and was runner up in 2010.

Reed, who races at a multitude of distances, and made his Ironman debut last November will race the June 5 Rev3 Quassy- a half Ironman distance race that he won in 2009.

Dye will take a start at the Memphis in May Triathlon next weekend and then the two will meet again in Austin.

“The battle will continue in Austin. Hopefully we can both bring our best game to the line and compete for the win,” Reed said.
